WELCOME PARTY FOR STEVE AND RACHEL ALLEN Sunday, August 10, 5 PM Now
that Steve and Rachel, B. J. and Joel are settled into their house, we want to
throw them a welcome party. Plan to come and get further acquainted with the
family. There will be a light supper of cold cuts and cheese for sandwiches,
chips and dessert. This is a family gathering and there will be special
entertainment. Matilda the Clown will come and do a magic show and balloon
animals for the kids. (Matilda is the daughter of Joy and A.C. Caviness) There
will be a special "money tree" for anyone who would like to leave a
"blessing" for the Allen Family. Please call the church office if you
will be attending so we can plan the food.
OLD FASHIONED HYMN SING SUNDAY, AUGUST 17, 6 PM in the Sanctuary There

'Twas the day after Bible school
Twas the day after Bible school and all over town,
With a sigh of relief, we all settled down.
Out to the golf course goes Dad in his cap,
And home in the bedroom Mom's taking a nap.
Gone Linda, gone Brenda, gone David and Johnny,
Gone Margie, and Mary, and Ronnie and Donnie.
Gone stories, and puppets, and songs in the air,
Gone paint under fingernails and paste in the hair.
Rest sweetly, dear workers, and wake with good cheer,
For Bible school won't come again for a year.
As they drifted off, I heard them exclaim:
"It was worth all the hard work and we'd do it again!"
THANKS: Many thanks to all those who helped in any way to make this
year's VBS a rousing success! A great time was had by all and without all the
volunteers, this would not be possible. We had around 100 children participating
and the rewards were watching them learn and grow each day.
YOUTH NEWS WEDNESDAY NIGHT YOUTH MEETING: 6 PM Wednesday's. This
summer they are meeting for "poolside fellowship". Normally they
gather at the church at 6 and travel to the home of a member. Call Steve Allen
or Chris Provence for more information.
HELPING HANDS: The constant high temperatures produce high utility
bills and when you don't pay the bill on time, the amounts due rise
dramatically. This is what we often see from clients seeking help from our
church. Extenuating circumstances, as well as poor judgement, prevent many from
making payments when due and clients find themselves in a financial crisis. We
listen, pay the bill according to funds available, and offer encouragement. Your
MCEA Food Pantry donations in July were plentiful - Thank you!
HAY, THERE! An elderly farmer was finishing his haymaking one Sunday
afternoon when his pastor drove by. "I noticed you weren't in church this
morning," said the pastor. "Don't you know that the Creator made the
world in six days and then rested on the seventh?" "Yes," replied
the farmer, as he looked uneasily at the rain clouds gathering in the sky.
"I know all about that. But he got done and I didn't."
PRAYER CHAIN: If you have a prayer chain concern, you may call...Alice
Stagner 447-4682 or Betty Lormand 588-1032. Diane Ganson (447-1843) is able to
start the E-Mail chain so notify her if C.J. is not available.
